Time to check one off the list

I finished making the cat bed tonight! This makes it the first item i have completed on the list. (yes, that's including #1: complete and organize this list. I'm having trouble chiming up with my last few goals)

I'm gonna put up a couple teaser pics, but I plan on taking more tomorrow with my better camera. The better camera needs a battery charge.

I'd love to know what you think!

Happy Mother's Day!

First off, let me wish a "Happy Mother's Day!" to all the mothers out there! Hope you all were shown appreciation in one way or another.

This will just be a quick post written while driving to a mothers day barbeque at Bob's aunt's house I wanted to show what i put together as a way of appreciating a few of the mothers in my life.

These are the three tins decorated on the outside. Inside they hold...

Sets of three magnets I made for each of the three women. If anyone is interested in knowing how i made them, let me know.

We finally went on another hike!

Today was a beautiful day! I got to enjoy it hiking in Auburn at the Hidden Falls Recreational Area with Bob, Zach and Karli. The trail we hiked was about 2.8 miles (1.4 in, 1.4 out). For more information on the park we visited, see http://www.placer.ca.gov/Departments/Facility/Parks/hiddenfalls.aspx

Zach also turned 17 months today. It's amazing how fast the time goes.

He was fascinated by the waterfall.

Time to play a little catch up

I need to get in the habit of posting in my blog more often.  I've had a pretty satisfying week as far as my list is concerned.  I finished reading "The Last Song".  Now, we can safely assume judging by my movie reviews that a book review coming from me isn't going to do anyone much good.  What I can tell you is that I liked it.  If you are a fan of any other Nicholas Sparks books this one won't disappoint.  I cant wait to see the movie!
Thursday I went thrift shopping with Krissy in search of the legs I've been looking for.  I want these legs for the cat bed I wanna make.  I finally found some that I'm pretty sure will work well.  Now to do some experimenting with the dremel to see if this is a project I can get done in an apartment...
When we left the thrift store we did a little geocaching around Sacramento.  We were able to find four of them.  I think I've got her addicted to geocaching now. Who's next?

Now for a couple less interesting notes...

I sold my kindle on amazon! Im very happy for the price i was able to get for it.  That puts me a hefty chunk forward on my goal of paying ourselves back for the iPad.  (from 29.7% to 55.8%)

And while we're on the topic, the iPad is here!!!!! Absolutely amazing. It will take many many uses to fully discover the capabilities of this thing.  I typed this whole blog post from the iPad.

Oh, and I got my coloring book. ;-)

A summary...

I didn't meet any of my mini-goals I set for myself this week.  I'm not too happy about that.  But my list has been on my mind a lot and I'm already noticed myself changing some daily actions to keep myself more motivated.  Things are going well.

Just made a delicious Italian Style meatloaf.  Since cooking 20 meals in one month is one of my goals, I was wondering if any readers might be interested in me sharing recipes in my blog.  Let me know what you think! Leave a comment below...

I'm sure I'll never grow too old for toys

I stopped at Thrifttown yesterday to look for furniture I can dismantle.  I am particularly looking for the perfect legs for a suitcase that will be turned to a cat bed.  Instead, I found a bag full of Geocaching goodies!  (For more about what geocaching is all about, watch this video on YouTube)  I broke open the bag tonight and there was some really neat stuff in there.  Lots of tiny toys that will fit perfectly in caches.  I'm really tempted to keep some of them, but hubby says 'no'.  I'm sure I'll find lots of things that are just as neat while I'm doing my geocaching, so I suppose I can let these ones go make someone else happy.  :)

I'm going to start reading The Last Song tonight.  I'm a huge Nicholas Sparks fan, but this one has taken me a bit to get around to.  I'm really hoping it holds up to my expectations, I've been wanting to dig in to a good novel.

Looking forward to the week ahead

I've decided I want to be working on at least three of my goals per week.  Many of my goals I am able to work on one little piece at a time.  These are the type of goals I will be working towards this week because I will have very little time outside of work.

Here are some "mini-goals" I will be working on this week:

- Find 3 Geocaches (0/3)
- Find 1 Letterbox (0/1)
- Make 1 bag from the book Simply Sublime Bags: 30 No-Sew, Low-Sew Projects

I'm sure there will be a couple films watched and I may start a book, depending on downtime at work.

Have a great week!

Thank goodness for Netflix

101 movies could get pretty expensive, buying or renting.  That's why I love Netflix.  I watched The Time Traveler's Wife tonight.  It was an alright movie but seemed to move pretty slow.  I've wanted to watch it for a long time but was slightly disappointed.  Maybe if I get around to reading the book it will be better.  It usually is.

Now, I gotta get on to something else in my list to blog about.  I'm pretty terrible with these film reviews.

Watched "Paul Blart, Mall Cop"

I laughed.

Don't ask me why.

Behold, as I attempt to review a film

I've had My Sister's Keeper sitting on the coffee table from Netflix for a few days.  Every night until now, I wasn't feeling like digging in to a 2 hour movie.
This one was definitely a tear-jerker.   I knew it was going to be because I read the book a few months ago.  Overall, I think they did a pretty good job turning the book in to a movie.  Abigail Breslin is brilliant in any role she plays, and Cameron Diaz definitely played her part well.  It was a little concerning in the beginning that they had placed Alec Baldwin in such a serious role as the lawyer.  He just looked uncomfortable.  The further into the movie, though, the more he seemed to be feeling his part.  I don't like the ending as much as the ending in the book.  But I suppose Hollywood loves a happy ending, and the books was just too sad.
Not a bad one to have on my list of watched movies.

Transferring from tumblr...

I found blogger to be much more full of features and am able to personalize my blog more on this site than on tumblr.  The following is just a compilation of my posts transferred from my previous blog... (original photos not included, sorry.)

We found our first geocache!
And then we found one more.  We also found a great go to place for a picnic within about 5 minutes of our apartment.
Zach came home, napped, had to be woken up to eat dinner, and went straight back to sleep.  Felt good to know we had actually found a way for him to use up that endless energy.

Loving the weather
Got to enjoy a bike ride to Carmichael park after enjoying a Saturday morning at work. Found my first letterbox! Tomorrow we have a day of geocaching along the river planned. Thinking about spending the afternoon searching thrift stores for legs off a table to use for making the cat bed I had in mind. Can’t wait to get started on that and post pictures of the progress.

I was super excited to find my first letter box today! This one was hidden in Carmichael park. To find out more about letterboxing, go to www.atlasquest.com. You might be surprised to find where ones hidden in a place near you you may have passed a million times. Also a good excuse to get out and explore places you’ve never been to.

And so it begins... again
I tried this a couple months back, didn’t get very far.  I’m beginning this time with more optimism.  I feel more commited to this list than before.  I’ve already made it much further than my prior list of about 30 items.
Playing some “Hasbro Family Game Night” tonight.  Don’t plan on knocking out many achievements, just relaxing and getting how the game works.
